Erwählung is my meditation on change, destiny, and the weight of being chosen. A made-to-order art print on 189 g/m² paper sourced from Japan, created for a wall you return to rather than simply pass.

The idea behind the work

I reworked the Big Dipper’s movement around the North Star, Polaris, drawing on its relationship to the four seasons. Rather than arranging the constellation in a regular, cross-like pattern, I deliberately left it outside a fixed seasonal position.

That departure expresses my sense of a great period of change approaching. Its resemblance to the cross in my Weltgeist Crusader work connects the two compositions.

“Erwählung” means election, selection, or chosenness. Here, I use it to explore being “chosen by destiny” and “selected for a purpose,” drawing on Hegel’s “Lectures on the Philosophy of World History” and the idea of “Weltgeschichtliche Bestimmung,” or world-historical destiny.

Hang it somewhere you can sit with that question. The meaning is there to explore, not something I need to settle for you.
