A work to return to, not glance past.

The Weltgeist Erwählung Crusader Hood brings my layered exploration of history, mythology, faith, and destiny to a soft-feel cotton-blend hoodie.

I spent multiple full days developing the concept and its smaller details. Look closely, then look again. The point is to find more each time.

The story behind the artwork

The front composition is organised around the Cross of the Knights Hospitaller. In my interpretation, Eden, Valhalla, Heaven, and a reworked crusade scene meet around an arch representing Europe. Odin, Caesar, and a deliberately blank third figure invite the viewer to consider their own place within the work.

Smaller references include Caspar David Friedrich’s “Wanderer above the Sea of Fog,” classical architecture, the Holy Lance, and Zeus’s lightning bolt. The search for the Grail in Wolfram von Eschenbach’s “Parzival,” alongside Hans-Jürgen Syberberg’s film imagery, helped shape the concept.

The back reworks the Big Dipper’s movement around Polaris. I deliberately placed the constellation outside a regular seasonal arrangement to express my sense of approaching change. “Erwählung” speaks here of election, selection, and chosenness: a question of purpose and destiny, informed by Hegel’s writing on world history.

This is my interpretation, offered for you to explore and find your own meaning within.
