This work is a total concentrated refinement of our shared history and culture moulded into the symbol of the Cross of the Knights Hospitaller.
To the left of the image lies the Garden of Eden, opposite is the Nordic home of the Gods, “Valhalla” depicting a portion of the “Aesir”. Upwards you can see “Heaven” that I will describe shortly in the paragraph below. Downwards is a scene depicting a modified painting of my blood ancestors of the “Sidon Knights” at the event of the “Baron’s Crusade” in which the central figure has been transposed to be an arch that represents Europe, with the heads of Odin, Caesar and a blank third figure meant to be interpreted as a hypothetical self portrait for who sees the image and can relate to it spiritually.
The first two paragraphs will shortly describe what you are seeing on the front and then the last two on the back.
There are LOTS of smaller tiny designs and images that are interpreted here and zooming for long enough you will see the depth of the work and decipher more and more meaning, as is the “point” of a lot of my content. To give a quick example of guidance you can see within the central arcade a minute reworking of “Wanderer above the Sea of Fog” by Caspar David Friedrich.
Looking upwards into “Heaven” you can see the vertical view of the Greek Pantheon in the background of a historical reworking of the Parthenon. To the right you can see an Eagle, on a throne and on the Pedestal in front is the “Heilige Lanze” or “The Spear of Destiny” also known as the “Spear of Longinus” which is the spear that sits within the Hoffburg that pierced the side of Christ during the Crucifixion. I have included the lightning bolt centrally positioned as the one attributed to the God Zeus as it stands on a Corinthian Pillar, but you will find plenty of references all throughout the image to the Romans, Christendom, Norse Traditions etc.
I am drawn to the spirit of “Parzifal” by Wolfram von Eschenbach a story which is essentially a search for the “Holy Grail” (in very short terms) and its deeper esoteric meanings and this image is intended to be a sort of guide to the reading – if one wishes to indulge. I even included a small sketch of “Schastel marveile” ( "The Castle of Wonders”) in the image as Hans-Jürgen Syberberg depicted it in his outstanding Film adaptation of the same name.
THE BACK of the work, or if buying in Print form the “Erwählung Print” is essentially a plotted re-stylisation of the the 4 seasons of the planet that can be discerned from looking at the constellation – “The Big Dipper” as it rotates around the North Star, “Polaris”.
Normally these are drawn in a uniform cross like design but to indicate that I believe there is going to be a great period of change coming I intentionally didn’t set the constellation in a regular position – therefore with no season being attributed. You may also for convenience sake notice that it is similar in look to the Cross discussed above and therefore the connection was made.
The bold writing on the statue translates through the gothic font to Latin script as “Erwählung” meaning “Election, Selection and Chosenness” in this context I intended it so to indicate the weight of being “Chosen by destiny” and “Selected for a purpose" alluding to Hegel’s writings in “Lectures on the Philosophy of World History” when he speaks of the “World Historic Destiny” alternatively the “Weltgeschichtliche Bestimmung”.
I took multiple full days to complete this and to craft the concept behind it and I hope you enjoy it and get something from it. I wish you all the best, God Bless You All.
